THE LAMP OF THE BODY

Our Lord declared, “The lamp of the body is the eye” (Matthew 6:22).

The eye is more than an organ of sight. It is the window through which the soul gazes upon the world. If that window is clear, the light enters freely, and the whole life is illuminated.

But if the eye is fixed upon vanity, envy, or earthly treasure, darkness quietly spreads through every chamber of the heart. Many seek brighter circumstances when what they truly need is a clearer vision of Christ.

The eye follows the treasure, and the heart soon follows the eye. A believer whose gaze is fixed upon the Savior finds strength in weakness, peace in turmoil, and hope in sorrow.

And the one whose eyes continually wander after the fading glories of this world discovers that earthly light casts long shadows.

The world promises satisfaction but leaves the soul hungry. Christ alone fills the heart with a light that neither time nor death can extinguish. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalms 119:105).

Guard, then, the eye of your soul with holy diligence. Look often to the cross, linger over the promises of God, and set your affection on things above rather than on the passing glitter of earth (Colossians 3:1-2).

The more steadfastly you behold Christ, the more His light will shine through your words, your conduct, and your character.

A heart filled with His light becomes, by His grace, a lamp that points others to the Light of the world (John 8:12).
