THE GOSPEL OF THE HOUSE
A house is known not merely by its walls, but by the foundation upon which it rests. Splendid beams and polished windows cannot save a dwelling built upon shifting sand. When the storm comes, appearance yields to reality.
So it is with the house of God.
The church does not stand because of eloquent preachers, impressive buildings, or ancient traditions. It stands because “no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11).
Every generation must return to that Foundation, for whatever departs from Christ cannot endure. The strength of the house is measured by its faithfulness to its Builder.
Many seek to improve the house by decorating its walls while neglecting its foundation. But the Lord desires truth before beauty, obedience before applause.
“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it” (Psalms 127:1). The church grows strong when God’s word governs its worship, its teaching, and its daily walk (Acts 2:42; Ephesians 2:19-22).
If we would defend the faith, let us begin by keeping the house as the Master designed it. A well-built house is itself a testimony to the wisdom of its architect. In the same way, a church shaped by the Bible proclaims to the world that Christ is both its Cornerstone and its Lord.
______________
Father, establish my life upon Christ, the sure Foundation. Let Your word shape Your church and keep us faithful to the pattern You have revealed. May all who enter Your house see the glory of Christ rather than the works of men. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
