THE GOSPEL OF THE JET
A jet is fashioned for the heavens. Though it rests upon the runway for a time, its purpose is not found on the ground but in the sky. It gathers speed, lifts above the earth, and leaves behind the weight that once held it.
The Christian life is like that.
God did not call us merely to admire heaven from a distance but to set our minds upon things above. “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2). The believer still walks this world, yet his citizenship is in another country.
Like the jet that rises above the clouds, faith lifts the soul beyond the passing concerns of this age.
And yet no aircraft leaves the earth without power. Its engines must provide a thrust greater than the force that holds it down. In the same way, no sinner rises above sin through human determination alone.
The power of the gospel is greater than the weight of guilt, for “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation” (Romans 1:16). What human effort cannot accomplish, God’s grace performs through Christ.
One day every flight must end, but the journey of those who belong to Christ will not. Our final destination is not an earthly airport but the everlasting presence of our Lord.
Until then, let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, trusting Him to carry us safely home (Hebrews 12:2; Philippians 3:20, 21).
______________
Father, lift my heart above the distractions of this world and teach me to live with my eyes fixed on Christ. May the power of the gospel carry me faithfully through every trial until I reach my eternal home with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
