SIGNS OF THE TIMES

The world is forever trembling. Kingdoms rise and fall. The earth groans beneath earthquakes. Nations rage against nations. Disease walks through cities, and men’s hearts fail them for fear.

These things, however, are not the truest signs of the times. Storm clouds have crossed the skies of every century.

The deeper question is this: What is God saying to us through these events? The Bible calls us not merely to observe the shaking of the earth but to examine the condition of our own souls (Hebrews 12:26-29).

Many rush to prophecy charts whenever a war erupts or a disaster strikes. But our Lord warned against alarm and panic.

He spoke of wars and rumors of wars and then declared, “See that you are not troubled” (Matthew 24:6).

The Christian does not live by headlines but by faith. While others are driven by fear, the believer rests in the sovereignty of God, knowing that not even a sparrow falls apart from the Father’s will (Matthew 10:29-31).

One of the clearest signs of our times is the growing rejection of God’s word. Men trust technology more than truth. They seek wisdom from every source except the Bible.

Isaiah described such a generation when he wrote, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil” (Isaiah 5:20). Whenever a society abandons the light of God’s truth, darkness inevitably follows.

This is not merely a sign of a particular century. It is evidence of the fallen condition of mankind.

Another sign is the cooling of spiritual affection. Jesus said, “Because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold” (Matthew 24:12).

Churches may multiply, religious activity may increase, and yet genuine devotion to Christ can decline. A person may know many doctrines and still possess a cold heart.

The Lord desires more than outward religion. He seeks those who worship Him in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24; Revelation 2:4).

Yet alongside these warnings shines a glorious encouragement. The gospel continues to advance. Christ is still saving sinners. The cross has not lost its power.

Wherever God’s word is preached, hearts are transformed. Even in dark days, the promise remains true: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ” (Revelation 11:15).

The darkness may deepen, but the light of Christ cannot be extinguished (John 1:5; Romans 1:16).

The greatest sign of all is not found in politics, economics, or natural disasters. It is found in the empty tomb and the living Christ who reigns at the Father’s right hand.

Because He lives, history is moving toward a divine conclusion.

The same Jesus who ascended into heaven will come again (Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18). Whether His return is today or centuries from now, the command remains unchanged: “Therefore you also be ready” (Matthew 24:44).

Let us then watch and pray. Let us keep our lamps burning. Let us fill our minds with the Bible and our hearts with devotion to Christ.

Instead of speculating about dates and seasons, let us pursue holiness, love, and faithfulness.

The signs of the times are not given to satisfy curiosity but to awaken readiness.

Blessed is that servant whom the Master finds watching when He comes (Luke 12:35-40).

Heavenly Father, open our eyes to see the world through the light of Your truth. Keep us from fear, speculation, and distraction. Help us to trust Your promises, love Your Son, and walk faithfully in obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
