#302 THE GOD WHO STANDS IN THE MIDST OF HIS PEOPLE 10-18-26

“For I,” says the LORD, “will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.”

Zechariah 2 offers a beautiful picture of God's protection, presence, and purpose for His people. Jerusalem would not always remain a city of ruins and sorrow. God had plans beyond what His people could presently see. The prophet's vision reminds us that the Lord is not limited by the apparent weakness of His people or the hostility of their enemies.

THE PROTECTION OF HIS PRESEMCE

God promised to be “a wall of fire all around her” (Zechariah 2:5). Ancient cities depended upon walls for security, but Jerusalem's ultimate defense would be the Lord Himself. Human defenses have limitations, but God's power has none. This does not mean God's people will never experience suffering. It means that no enemy can overturn His ultimate purposes. As David declared, “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer” (Psalm 18:2).

THE GLORY OF HIS DWELLING

God promised to be “the glory in her midst” (Zechariah 2:5). The greatest blessing of God's people was never merely their land, buildings, or prosperity. Their greatest blessing was the presence of God among them. The same principle speaks to us today. A congregation may possess a beautiful building, talented speakers, and abundant resources, but without devotion to the Lord, it has missed its greatest treasure. We must seek His will, honor His word, and exalt His Son.

THE INVITATION OF HIS SALVATION

Zechariah 2:11 declares that many nations would join themselves to the Lord. God's purpose extended beyond one city and one people. His saving work would reach the nations, finding its fulfillment in the worldwide mission of Jesus Christ.

What comfort this chapter provides. God protects according to His wisdom, dwells among His people, and calls the nations to Himself.
