#263 LIFE IS LIKE A CLOCK 10-10-26

Life is like a clock. The hands keep moving, the hours keep passing, and no amount of wishing can make yesterday return. We can remember the past, learn from our mistakes, and hope for tomorrow, but the only time we can actually use is the time God has placed in our hands today.

When we are young, we often believe we have an endless supply of time. We postpone important conversations, delay meaningful decisions, and imagine that someday we will get around to doing the things that matter most. Then the years begin to pass, familiar faces grow older, and opportunities that once seemed certain become memories. Moses prayed, “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). Wisdom begins when we recognize that our days are precious.

But the passing of time need not fill us with regret. Every new morning brings opportunities to do something worthwhile. We can forgive someone we have resented, encourage someone who has grown discouraged, help someone carrying a heavy burden, or tell someone about the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We cannot add hours to the day, but we can add purpose to the hours we have.

The apostle Paul urged Christians to walk wisely, “redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15-16). Time is not merely something to spend; it is something to steward. We must ask ourselves whether our daily choices are bringing us closer to God or allowing us to drift farther away from Him.

One day, every earthly clock will stop for us. Our possessions will remain, our schedules will be forgotten, and our earthly accomplishments will belong to history. But the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ gives us a hope that no clock can measure. The One who conquered death offers life beyond the reach of time.

So do not spend today mourning yesterday or worrying endlessly about tomorrow. Thank God for the present, love the people around you, and make your life count for eternity.

The clock never asks whether you are ready for the next hour. It simply reminds you that the hour you have now is a gift you should not waste.
