#242 TIRED FAITH 10-6-26

In 1 Kings 19 Elijah had just stood on Mount Carmel and watched God answer by fire. He had seen the prophets of Baal defeated and the people acknowledge that the Lord is God. But the next chapter finds Elijah running for his life, sitting under a broom tree, and asking that he might die.

Great faith does not mean we never become tired.

REST

God did not begin Elijah’s restoration with a rebuke. Elijah slept. Then an angel touched him and said, “Arise and eat.” There was food and water beside him. He slept again, and again the angel said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you” (1 Kings 19:5–7).

Sometimes the spiritual answer begins with recognizing that we are human. Even Jesus told His disciples, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while” (Mark 6:31).

Rest is not always retreat. Sometimes rest is preparation for the next assignment.

RENEWAL

After Elijah was strengthened, he traveled to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the Lord asked him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” God was bringing Elijah back to perspective.

The Lord passed by, but the great wind, earthquake, and fire were followed by “a still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12). Elijah needed to remember that God was still working, even when God was not working in the way Elijah expected.

Discouragement has a way of making yesterday’s victory look small and tomorrow’s trouble look enormous. God renews us by reminding us that He has not changed.

RETURN

Finally, God told Elijah, “Go, return on your way” (1 Kings 19:15). Elijah had rested. Elijah had been renewed. Now Elijah was ready to return.

That is often God’s pattern. He meets us in our weariness, strengthens us in our weakness, and sends us forward again.

If your faith feels tired today, do not assume that God is finished with you. The journey may be great, but His grace is greater. “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31).

Rest when you need to rest. Listen when you need to listen. Then rise and go again.

Father, when our faith grows tired and our hearts become discouraged, help us remember that You have not left us. Give us wisdom to rest, grace to be renewed, and courage to return to the work You have given us. Quiet our hearts so we can hear Your voice, and strengthen us for the journey ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
