#243 THE DANGER OF A FULL HOUSE 10-6-26

Jesus told of a certain man who prepared a great supper and invited many people. When the time came, those who had been invited began making excuses. One had bought a piece of ground. Another had purchased five yoke of oxen. Another had married a wife. They all had reasons, but they all missed the supper (Luke 14:16-20).

The frightening thing about this story is that they were invited.

INVITATION

The gospel is God’s invitation to come. Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). The invitation is gracious, personal, and open. God has made room at His table.

Nobody can say, “There was no place for me.”

EXCUSES

The problem was not that the invitation was unclear. The problem was that other things became more important. Their fields, possessions, and relationships filled their lives until there was no room for the invitation.

An excuse does not have to be evil to keep us from God. Sometimes good things become dangerous when they take first place.

Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33).

ENTRANCE

The master of the feast finally said, “Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in” (Luke 14:23). The invitation continued. Others came and filled the house.

The question is not whether God has made room for you. He has.

The question is whether you will make room for Him.

Do not let a full schedule produce an empty soul. Do not let temporary things keep you from eternal things. The door is open. The invitation has been given.

Come in.

Father, help us never become so occupied with this life that we neglect the invitation of Your grace. Give us hearts that seek Your kingdom first and gladly come when You call. May nothing take Your place in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
