#219 THE SERMON IN THE STARS 10-1-26

Look into the night sky on a clear evening and you are looking at one of the oldest sermons ever preached. No pulpit stands beneath the stars. No preacher’s voice echoes across the heavens. Yet David declared, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1). Before man ever wrote a word, God had already written a testimony across the heavens.

THE GLORY THEY DECLARE

The stars declare the glory of their Creator. “The heavens declare” is present tense. Every night, the heavens continue their testimony. Psalm 8:3-4 says, “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him?” The greater the heavens appear, the greater God appears. The universe does not diminish God. It magnifies Him. Paul said that the invisible things of God are “clearly seen” through the things that are made (Romans 1:20).

THE MESSAGE THEY MAKE KNOWN

The heavens preach without words. David said, “There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard” (Psalm 19:3). Their message crosses borders and languages. The psalmist says their line has gone “through all the earth” (Psalm 19:4). Creation itself bears witness. Acts 14:17 tells us that God “did not leave Himself without witness,” giving rain, fruitful seasons, and gladness. The sermon in the stars reaches every nation.

THE CREATOR THEY MAGNIFY

But the stars are not the destination. They point beyond themselves to the One who made them. Genesis 1:16 says, “He made the stars also.” Colossians 1:16 takes us even higher: “All things were created through Him and for Him.” Jesus Christ stands behind the beauty of creation. Hebrews 1:10 says, “You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.”

So tonight, look upward. Let the stars preach. Let them remind you that you live in a universe filled with evidence of God’s handiwork. But do not stop with the sermon in the stars. Open the Bible and hear the fuller message of the God who made those stars and sent His Son to save us.

The heavens declare His glory. Creation bears His witness. And Christ reveals His heart.

_____________________

Father, when we look into the heavens and see the moon, the stars, and the vastness of Your creation, help us to see beyond what You have made and worship the One who made it. Teach us to hear the sermon You have written across the skies and to recognize Your glory in every part of creation. Forgive us for the times we have become so occupied with earthly things that we have forgotten how great You are. Let our lives become another testimony to Your grace, so that others may see Christ living in us. In the name of Jesus, our Creator, Savior, and Lord, Amen.
