THE SOUNDS OF SUMMER
Summer has a soundtrack all its own. The cheerful singing of birds at daybreak, the gentle hum of bees among the flowers, the rustling of leaves in a warm breeze, the laughter of children at play, and the distant rumble of an afternoon thunderstorm all remind us that God has filled His creation with beauty and order.
Long before mankind learned to compose music, the Lord had already orchestrated a symphony in nature. “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handywork” (Psalm 19:1). Every sound of summer whispers that the Creator is still upon His throne.
And there is another sound that ought to rise above them all—the voice of God speaking through His Word. While the world is distracted by the noise of entertainment and endless activity, the believer finds delight in hearing the Lord.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). The sweetest melody in life is not found in the songs of birds or the crashing of waves, but in the promises of Scripture that bring peace to a weary heart and direction to wandering feet.
As the sounds of summer surround you, let them turn your thoughts heavenward. Let every chirping bird remind you of God’s faithful care, every clap of thunder remind you of His mighty power, and every joyful laugh remind you of the abundant life found in Christ.
One day the songs of this present world will fade away, but the praises of God’s redeemed people will never end. “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise” (Psalm 98:4).
May the sounds of summer lead your heart to worship the One who made them all.
