THE QUIET LESSON OF A SUNRISE

I have watched a lot of sunrises over the years. Some mornings I was out because I had somewhere to be, and other mornings I simply couldn’t sleep. One thing I have noticed is that no two sunrises are exactly alike. Some are bright with brilliant colors, while others seem almost hidden behind clouds. And every single morning, without fail, the sun rises right on time. It reminds me that God’s faithfulness never takes a day off.

Jeremiah wrote, “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23). The sunrise is a daily reminder that God keeps His promises. We may wake up carrying yesterday’s burdens, regrets, or disappointments, but the Lord offers fresh mercy for a new day. Yesterday’s failures do not cancel today’s grace.

There have been mornings when I didn’t feel especially strong or even particularly encouraged. I simply opened my Bible, prayed, and trusted God to help me through the day. Looking back, I can see that those ordinary mornings often became the days when God quietly did His greatest work in my heart. Our faith is not built only during life’s mountaintop moments. More often, it grows in the quiet routines of seeking the Lord day after day (Luke 9:23; Psalm 5:3).

Perhaps today feels cloudy for you. The sun may be hidden from your view, but it has not disappeared. In the same way, God’s presence is not measured by your feelings. He remains faithful whether the skies are clear or overcast (Hebrews 13:5). Keep walking with Him, keep trusting His Word, and keep looking to Christ. In His perfect time, the clouds will pass, and you will once again see the evidence of the One who has been with you all along (Isaiah 40:31; Proverbs 3:5-6).

____________

Prayer

Father, thank You for Your new mercies every morning. Help me to trust Your faithfulness even on the days when I cannot clearly see what You are doing. Teach me to walk by faith, rest in Your promises, and begin each new day with my eyes fixed on Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
