THE GOSPEL OF THE LAMP
A lamp does not argue with the darkness. It simply shines.
So it is with the defense of the Christian faith.
Many imagine apologetics to be a contest of clever words, yet its highest purpose is to hold the light of Christ before those wandering in unbelief. Truth needs no embellishment. It asks only to be faithfully displayed. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalms 119:105).
The strongest defense of the Bible is the Bible itself. Every fulfilled promise, every page that exalts Christ, and every soul transformed by the gospel bears witness that God’s word is living and powerful (Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17). We do not invent the light. We merely lift the lamp.
When objections arise, let them drive us deeper into God’s word rather than away from it.
A lamp is most appreciated when night has fallen.
So the questions of skeptics often become opportunities for the brightness of truth to be seen more clearly. “Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15).
______________
Father, keep me from trusting in human wisdom more than Your truth. Help me to know the Bible, love the Bible, and proclaim Christ with humility, courage, and grace. May my life and my words point others to the Light of the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
