MEETING GOD UPHILL
The road to God is often an uphill path. The flesh craves ease, but faith is strengthened by the climb.
Throughout the Bible, the Lord repeatedly called His servants to the mountains.
Abraham ascended Moriah with trembling faith and discovered Jehovah’s faithful provision (Genesis 22:2, 13-14).
Moses climbed Sinai and returned with his face reflecting the glory of the Lord (Exodus 24:12-18; 34:29).
Our Savior withdrew to the mountains to pray, teaching us that the highest blessings are often found where the climb is steepest (Luke 6:12).
God has never promised that fellowship with Him would be effortless, but He has promised that those who seek Him with all their hearts will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).
Many believers long for the joy of God’s presence while avoiding the path that leads there. The uphill road is paved with repentance, self-denial, prayer, and patient endurance.
Every step seems to cost something of self, yet every step brings the soul nearer to Christ.
The weary pilgrim discovers that the climb itself becomes a means of grace, for the Lord gives strength to those who wait upon Him. “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles” (Isaiah 40:31).
The higher the believer ascends by faith, the smaller the world appears and the more magnificent the Savior becomes.
Do not fear the uphill road.
The valleys have their purpose, but the mountains reveal God’s majesty in a special way.
If your obedience is costly, your prayers difficult, or your trials heavy, remember that the Lord often meets His children where faith has carried them beyond their own strength.
Press on, for every step taken toward Christ is rewarded by a clearer view of His glory.
One day the climb will end, faith will become sight, and all who have followed the Shepherd will stand forever upon the heavenly Mount Zion, rejoicing in His presence without weariness or tears (Hebrews 12:22-24; Revelation 21:3-4).
_____________
Heavenly Father, give me grace to climb when the path is steep and my strength is small. Draw my heart away from the comforts of this world and nearer to Your Son. Help me to seek Your face with perseverance, trusting that every step of faithful obedience brings me closer to You. Keep my eyes fixed on Christ until the day I stand in Your glorious presence. In His holy name, Amen.
