#347 THE COMFORT OF COMPASSION 10-29-26

Compassion can reach places that words cannot. Sometimes a person does not need an explanation for their suffering. They need someone willing to sit beside them, listen without rushing, and remind them that they have not been forgotten.

Jesus demonstrated this throughout His ministry. When He encountered the grieving, the sick, the lonely, and the brokenhearted, He did not treat them as interruptions. He saw people who mattered. Matthew 9:36 tells us that when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them because they were weary and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd.

What a beautiful picture of the heart of our Savior! He saw more than the crowds. He saw their burdens, their confusion, and their need for God’s care.

Compassion still has a place in our world today. A telephone call to someone who lives alone, a visit to a grieving family, or a quiet prayer with someone facing a difficult season can become a powerful expression of Christian love. We may not be able to remove another person’s sorrow, but we can help them carry it.

Colossians 3:12 calls God’s people to put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, and longsuffering. These qualities are not decorations for our faith. They are evidence that the love of Christ is shaping our hearts.

We live in a world quick to criticize and slow to understand. Let us be different. Let our words offer encouragement, our actions demonstrate kindness, and our presence bring comfort.

Father, give us hearts that notice the hurting and hands willing to help. Teach us to show the compassion of Jesus to everyone we meet. Amen.
