“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). We’ve got all the time we need if we commit to doing what we are supposed to do.
TIME FOR OUR GOD
We need to make time for God. He must not be pushed into the leftover corners of our lives, receiving only the attention we have to spare. Jesus said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). We need time in the Bible, time in prayer, time in worship, and time in quiet fellowship with our Father. The more we walk with God, the more we learn to walk in His ways. Our time with Him shapes how we spend our time everywhere else.
TIME FOR OUR NEIGHBORS
We also need time for other people. Love requires more than good intentions. It requires attention, compassion, patience, and a willingness to stop what we are doing long enough to help somebody else. Jesus taught us to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:39). There are people who need encouragement, families who need support, widows who need a visit, and weary souls who need someone willing to listen. Galatians 6:10 says, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all.” We may never know how much good a few minutes of genuine kindness can accomplish.
TIME FOR OURSELVES
Finally, we need time for ourselves. Rest is not selfish, and reflection is not wasted time. Jesus invited His disciples to “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while” (Mark 6:31). We need time to think, learn, enjoy God's creation, develop our abilities, and renew our strength. A life constantly running without stopping eventually loses its direction. Taking time to rest can help us return to our responsibilities with a clearer mind and a stronger spirit.
Our days are passing, but our opportunities are still before us. Let us give God our devotion, our neighbors our love, and ourselves the care we need to continue faithfully. We cannot add more hours to the day, but we can put more purpose into the hours God gives us.
