#261 LIFE IS LIKE A WALK THROUGH AN OLD TOWN 10-10-26
Life is like a walk through an old town. Some streets are familiar, some corners surprise us, and some places hold memories we would rather forget. But every turn offers us another opportunity to discover something worthwhile.
We spend so much time thinking about where we are going that we sometimes forget to appreciate where we are. We rush through conversations, overlook ordinary blessings, and postpone happiness until some future day when everything finally falls into place. But life is happening right now. The Bible says, “This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).
An old town teaches us something about time. Buildings bear the marks of passing years. Storefronts change, familiar faces disappear, and new generations walk the same sidewalks. We cannot preserve every moment, but we can make the moments we have count. A kind word, a helping hand, or an unexpected friendship may become one of the brightest memories someone carries.
Life also reminds us that we do not need to travel far to discover something wonderful. Sometimes the most interesting stories are found in our own neighborhoods, among people we have passed a hundred times without truly knowing. Every person has a history. Every conversation can teach us something. Every ordinary day holds possibilities we have not yet considered.
Most importantly, we must remember that our earthly journey is not the whole story. God has given us life, Christ has opened the way of salvation, and the promises of God give us hope beyond the passing years. As James 4:14 reminds us, our life is “a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”
So take the walk. Notice the people. Enjoy the sunshine. Make a new friend. Do some good while you can. You may never pass this way again, but you can leave behind kindness wherever your feet have carried you.
A life well lived is not measured by how many places we visit, but by how much love we leave behind.
