#256 LIKE THERE’S NO YESTERDAY 10-9-26

Yesterday is gone. We can remember it, learn from it, and thank God for bringing us through it, but we cannot go back and change it. The words have been spoken, the opportunities have passed, and the mistakes have been made. Life does not give us the privilege of reliving yesterday, but God gives us the opportunity to live today.

“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal” (Philippians 3:13-14). Paul was not suggesting that the past had no lessons to teach. He was declaring that the past would not prevent him from pursuing the purpose God had placed before him.

Some people live in yesterday’s failures. Others live in yesterday’s victories. Both can become prisoners of a day that no longer exists. Yesterday’s sins can be forgiven through Jesus Christ, and yesterday’s accomplishments cannot substitute for today’s obedience.

Jesus taught us not to worry about tomorrow, because “sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matthew 6:34). If we spend today regretting yesterday and fearing tomorrow, we may miss the very blessings God has placed within our reach right now.

Live like there is no yesterday. Love somebody today. Forgive somebody today. Tell somebody about Jesus today. Do the good you have the opportunity to do today. James reminds us that we should not merely plan to do good someday, because “to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin” (James 4:17).

We cannot change yesterday, and we cannot control tomorrow. But by the grace of God, we can make today count.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is uncertain, but today is an opportunity to glorify Jesus Christ. Don't waste it.
