#254 WHEN JESUS WALKS INTO THE STORM 10-8-26

There are times when life becomes a storm. The disciples knew something about storms. In Mark 4, they were crossing the sea when “a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling” (Mark 4:37). These were not men who had never seen a storm. Some of them were experienced fishermen. They knew the danger.

Yet Jesus was in the boat.

That did not keep the storm from coming.

Sometimes we mistakenly think that if Christ is with us, trouble will stay away. But the presence of Jesus does not mean the absence of storms. It means we do not face the storms alone.

REMEMBER HIS PRESENCE

The disciples were frightened because they focused on the storm instead of the Savior. Jesus was there, even when He appeared to be sleeping. He had not abandoned them.

God said, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you” (Isaiah 43:2). Notice that He did not say if you pass through the waters. He said when.

Christ has promised, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

The storm may be real, but so is His presence.

REST IN HIS POWER

Jesus arose and “rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:39).

The disciples had been afraid of the storm. Now they were amazed by the One who commanded it. They asked, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” (Mark 4:41).

That is the question every storm eventually brings us to.

Who is Jesus?

He is more than a teacher. More than a prophet. More than a moral example. He is Lord over the wind and the waves. The One in the boat possessed authority over the very forces that terrified the men around Him.

RELY ON HIS PURPOSE

We do not always know why God allows the storm. Job did not. Joseph did not understand the pit before he understood the palace. The disciples did not understand the cross before they understood the resurrection.

But we can trust the One who sees what we cannot see.

Romans 8:28 reminds us that “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

You may not understand your storm today. You do not have to understand everything to trust Someone who does.

The storm may shake the boat, but it cannot shake Christ.

Father, when the storms of life come, help us remember that Jesus is with us. When fear rises, teach us to trust His power. When we cannot understand what You are doing, give us faith to believe that You are still working. Help us keep our eyes upon Christ, knowing that whatever happens around us, He remains Lord over it all. In Jesus’ name, Anen.
