#252 WHEN IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE TO US 10-8-26
Job teaches us an important lesson about faith: just because something does not make sense to us does not mean it does not make sense to God.
Job suffered greatly, and much of what happened to him was completely beyond his understanding. He lost his possessions, his children, his health, and his sense of security. His friends tried to explain it, but their explanations were often wrong. Job wanted answers. God eventually answered, but He did not give Job the explanation he expected.
Instead, God reminded Job of who He was. “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding” (Job 38:4). God asked Job questions about the creation, the sea, the stars, the animals, and the workings of the universe. The point was not that Job was foolish. The point was that Job was limited.
We face the same problem. We see one moment; God sees the whole story. We see the circumstance; God sees the purpose. We see the question; God sees the answer.
Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord.”
This is not an argument against faith. It is an argument for humility. If God were no greater than our understanding, He would not be much of a God.
Job finally said, “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You” (Job 42:5).
Sometimes faith means trusting God when we have more questions than answers.

Father, help us trust You when life does not make sense. Remind us that our understanding is limited, but Your wisdom is perfect. Give us the humility to trust Your ways and the faith to keep walking when we cannot see the whole path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
