#236 THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WORSHIP 10-5-26

Worship is wonderful. It takes our eyes off ourselves and turns them toward God. It reminds us that life is bigger than our problems, our plans, and our circumstances. Worship lifts the heart because worship lifts the eyes.

Jesus said, “You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve” (Matthew 4:10). Worship is not merely something we do when we gather with other Christians. It is a way of life.

THE PLACE OF WORSHIP

Psalm 100:2 says, “Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.”

Worship brings us into the presence of God with thankful hearts. We can gather with His people, sing His praises, pray, remember Christ, hear His word, and give thanks for His goodness.

But worship is bigger than a building. “Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). The Christian can worship while singing, serving, teaching, helping, giving, working, and walking through an ordinary Tuesday afternoon.

Every place becomes different when we remember who we are living for.

THE POWER OF WORSHIP

Worship changes our perspective.

When Paul and Silas were beaten and imprisoned, “at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God” (Acts 16:25). Their circumstances had not changed, but their focus had. Sometimes worship does not immediately change the situation. It changes the person standing in the situation.

When we worship, fear gives way to faith. Worry gives way to trust. Complaining gives way to gratitude. We remember that God is still God even when life is not going according to our plans.

Psalm 34:1 says, “I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

That is powerful worship.

THE PURPOSE OF WORSHIP

Ultimately, worship is about God.

Psalm 96:4 says, “For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised.” We do not worship merely because worship makes us feel better. We worship because God is worthy.

Jesus is worthy because He gave Himself for us. Revelation 5:12 declares, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.”

The cross gives worship its deepest meaning. We sing because He saved us. We pray because He hears us. We give because He first gave to us. We serve because He served us. Worship reminds us that we were created for more than ourselves.

So enter the wonderful world of worship.

Find your place.

Feel its power.

Remember its purpose.

And above everything else, give God the glory.

When our hearts are turned toward Him, even ordinary days begin to sound like songs.
