#227 THE BRANCH THAT BEARS FRUIT 10-3-26

Isaiah 11 opens with what looks like a dead stump: “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.” What appears to be finished is not finished. What looks cut down can still bring forth life.

That Branch is Jesus.

The family of Jesse would eventually seem small and insignificant, but God was not finished with David’s house. From those roots would come the One who would change the world. Jesus did not arrive with the noise of earthly power. He came as the promised Branch, growing from a seemingly unlikely place, yet carrying the fullness of God’s purpose.

“The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD” (Isaiah 11:2).

What we desperately need, Christ possesses perfectly.

We need wisdom. He is our wisdom.

We need understanding. He knows the heart.

We need counsel. His word gives direction.

We need strength. His grace is sufficient.

We need knowledge of God. Jesus came to reveal the Father.

And Isaiah says that “with righteousness He shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth” (Isaiah 11:4). Jesus does not judge as men judge. He sees beyond appearances. He knows what is hidden. He is righteous in all His ways.

The wonderful thing about the Branch is that He does not merely grow. He bears fruit.

Isaiah 11 shows us that God can bring life from places that look dead. He can bring hope where we see only history, failure, loss, or brokenness. The stump is not the end when God has planted His promise in the roots.

Jesus is still the Branch.

And where Christ is, there is life.

Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Branch that brings life from what seems dead. Give us Your wisdom, Your understanding, Your strength, and Your righteousness. Help us trust You when we cannot see what You are doing. May our lives bear fruit because we are rooted in You. Amen.
