#223 WHEN GOD’S PEOPLE LOSE THEIR VOICE 10-2-26

Micah 3 is a sobering chapter because it exposes what happens when people who are supposed to speak for God become more concerned with themselves than with God. The chapter is filled with leaders who have forgotten justice, prophets who have turned ministry into personal gain, and people who have mistaken religious activity for faithfulness.

THE CORRUPTION OF LEADERSHIP

Micah begins by confronting those who should have known justice. Instead, they “hate the good and love the evil” (Micah 3:2). Their position had not produced humility. It had produced selfishness.

Leadership is never merely about having a title. Jesus said, “Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant” (Matthew 20:26). God measures leadership differently than the world does. The question is not simply, “What position do I hold?” but, “What am I doing with the influence God has given me?”

THE SILENCE OF THE PROPHETS

Micah then speaks of prophets who would cry out when they were fed, but would prepare war against those who gave them nothing (Micah 3:5). Their message had become dependent upon what they received.

But Micah stands in contrast to them: “But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the LORD, and of justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin” (Micah 3:8).

A voice that cannot be bought is powerful. God’s servant must love truth more than applause, faithfulness more than popularity, and God’s approval more than human approval.

Paul later wrote, “For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10).

THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD

The chapter ends with a startling warning. Jerusalem’s leaders believed that their religious position would protect them, saying, “Is not the LORD among us? No harm can come upon us” (Micah 3:11).

But God’s presence cannot be used as a shield for disobedience.

The answer is not merely to talk about God being with us. We must walk with Him. Micah would later give us the beautiful words: “He has shown you, O man, what is good” (Micah 6:8).

God still desires people who will walk humbly, love mercy, do justice, and speak His truth. May we never lose our voice because we have lost our courage, and may we never lose our courage because we have forgotten whose voice we are called to carry.

_______________
Lord, keep my heart faithful when truth is difficult to speak. Give me courage to stand for what is right, humility to serve rather than seek position, and wisdom to use every influence You give me for Your glory. Help me love Your approval more than the applause of people. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
