WHEN GOD WALKS INTO OUR STORY
In Casablanca, Rick Blaine says, “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.” It is a moment of surprise and emotion as Rick unexpectedly encounters someone from his past. The line captures the feeling of a chance meeting that changes everything. Life is filled with unexpected moments, but the child of God knows that what may seem like coincidence is often part of the providence of a faithful God.
Throughout the Bible, God repeatedly brought people together at exactly the right moment. Moses was placed in Pharaoh’s house for a purpose. Esther was positioned in the kingdom “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14). Philip was sent to a desert road where he would meet an Ethiopian official who was searching for truth (Acts 8:26-35). These were not random encounters; they were divine appointments.
Many times, we pass by people without realizing that God may have placed them in our path. A conversation, a kind word, a helping hand, or a simple act of love may become the moment when someone sees the grace of God through us. Jesus was always aware of the people around Him—the forgotten, the hurting, the searching, and the lost.
The greatest unexpected encounter in history was when God came into our world through Jesus Christ. Humanity was lost in sin, but God stepped into our story to bring redemption. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). The Savior came not because we deserved Him, but because His love was greater than our failure.
We may never know the reason behind every person God places in our lives, but we can trust the One who guides our steps. The next person we meet may simply be another face in the crowd, or they may be someone God has placed in our path for an eternal purpose. May we have eyes to see the divine appointments God gives us each day.
