THE PROMISE WAS MADE TO CHRIST

God’s plan of redemption was never an afterthought. Before the law was given at Mount Sinai, before Israel became a nation, God spoke a promise to Abraham that would bless every family of the earth.

Galatians 3:16 shines a bright light on that promise: “Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, ‘And to seeds,’ as of many, but as of one, ‘And to your Seed,’ who is Christ.”

The promise ultimately rested, not upon a nation, but upon one glorious Person. From the beginning, God was directing history toward His Son (Genesis 12:3, 22:18).

This truth gives remarkable unity to the Bible. The Old Testament is not a collection of disconnected stories. It is the unfolding account of God’s purpose to bring the Messiah into the world.

Abraham believed God’s promise, and his faith looked beyond his own lifetime to the coming Redeemer. The prophets, the sacrifices, and the covenants all pointed toward Christ, who fulfilled what no one else could accomplish (Luke 24:27; John 5:39; Galatians 3:8).

When Paul emphasizes the singular word “Seed,” he is not playing a meaningless word game. He is showing that God’s promise finds its fulfillment in Christ alone.

Every spiritual blessing promised to Abraham reaches us through Him. Forgiveness, adoption, eternal life, and the hope of resurrection are found only in the Son of God. “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen.” (2 Corinthians 1:20).

Because the promise belongs to Christ, those who belong to Christ also become heirs of that promise. We do not inherit God’s blessings because of nationality, law-keeping or human achievement. We receive them through faith in Jesus Christ.

As we are united with Him, we become children of Abraham in the deepest spiritual sense and heirs according to the promise (Galatians 3:26-29; Romans 4:16).

This should fill our hearts with confidence and gratitude. God’s salvation rests upon the finished work of Christ rather than the unstable foundation of human merit.

The same Lord who fulfilled the promise to Abraham will also fulfill every promise He has made to His people.

His faithfulness cannot fail because His word cannot fail. Heaven and earth may pass away, but His words will never pass away (Matthew 24:35, Hebrews 10:23, Titus 1:2).

_______________

Heavenly Father, thank You for keeping every promise You have made through Your Son. Help us to trust completely in Christ, our promised Seed, and never in our own righteousness.

Fill our hearts with gratitude as we rejoice in the inheritance You have given to all who belong to Him. Strengthen our faith to rest upon Your unfailing word each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
