THE MERCY SEAT

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

The mercy seat in the Old Testament was the place where atonement was made and where God met with His people (Exodus 25:22).

Under the New Covenant, Christ has opened the way into God’s presence through His own blood (Hebrews 10:19-22).

Because Jesus is our great High Priest, we are invited to approach God’s throne with confidence, not because we deserve acceptance, but because Christ has made the way.

Hebrews 4:16 reminds us that every believer has continual access to God’s mercy and grace.

MERCY

The first blessing awaiting us at God’s throne is mercy. Mercy is God withholding the judgment that our sins deserve.

Every believer knows the daily need for mercy because we continually fall short of God’s perfect standard. The Lord delights in showing compassion to those who humbly seek Him.

We never come before a reluctant Savior. We come before One whose heart is full of mercy and whose hands are open to receive those who call upon Him.

MEETING

Hebrews does not merely invite us to receive something from God. It invites us to come to God Himself.

Prayer is more than presenting requests. It is meeting with our heavenly Father. At the throne of grace we find fellowship, communion, and renewed strength for the journey.

The greatest privilege of prayer is not simply answered petitions but the presence of the One who sits upon the throne.

MIGHT

The verse concludes by promising “grace to help in time of need.” God never calls His children to walk alone. The grace He gives is sufficient for every temptation, every burden, every sorrow, and every trial.

When we leave the throne of grace, we leave strengthened by His power rather than our own.

Those who continually come to the mercy seat discover that God’s might is always greater than their weakness, and His grace is always sufficient for every need.

________________

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for opening the way into Your presence through Jesus Christ. Help me never to neglect the privilege of coming boldly before Your throne. Let me continually receive Your mercy, enjoy fellowship with You, and find the grace and strength I need for each day. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
