THE LIGHT
From the beginning of creation, light has represented the presence, power, and glory of God. When darkness covered the earth, God spoke and said, “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3).
God is revealed as the One who brings light into darkness, guidance into confusion, hope into despair.
The prophets looked forward to the coming of the Messiah as a great light shining upon those who walked in darkness (Isaiah 9:2). Jesus declared that He was the fulfillment of that promise when He said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12).
Christ is the light that reveals God’s truth, rescues sinners, and transforms the lives of those who follow Him.
THE LIGHT THAT REVEALS
Light exposes what darkness tries to hide. Jesus came into the world as the true Light, revealing the holiness of God and exposing the condition of the human heart (John 1:9).
Many people love darkness because they do not want their deeds exposed, but those who come to Christ find freedom in His truth (John 3:19-21).
The light of Christ does not reveal our sin to condemn us without hope but to lead us toward repentance and restoration. In His presence, we see ourselves clearly and discover the grace that changes us.
THE LIGHT THAT RESCUES
Darkness represents the separation and confusion caused by sin, but Jesus came to deliver people from the power of darkness.
God has delivered believers from the power of darkness and brought them into the kingdom of His beloved Son (Colossians 1:13).
Through Christ, those who were lost receive direction, those who were guilty receive forgiveness, and those who were hopeless receive new life. The Light of the World came not only to shine upon humanity but to save humanity.
THE LIGHT THAT REQUIRES
Light demands a decision.
Jesus did not say that people could admire the light while continuing to walk in darkness. He called His followers to walk in the light and become children of light (John 12:35-36).
Those who belong to Christ are called to reflect His character through their words, actions, and love toward others.
As Jesus said, “You are the light of the world,” believers are called to shine before others so that God may be glorified (Matthew 5:14-16).
THE LIGHT THAT REMAINS
Earthly lights can fade, but the light of Christ will never disappear. The final picture of God’s kingdom reveals a place where there is no need for the sun or moon because the glory of God illuminates it and the Lamb is its light (Revelation 21:23).
Those who follow Jesus walk with confidence because His light guides them through this life and leads them into eternity. The darkness may surround us, but it can never overcome the Light that shines forever.
_____________
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus Christ, the Light of the World. Help us to walk in His truth, reflect His love, and shine His light in a world filled with darkness.
Remove anything in our hearts that keeps us from following Him completely. May our lives point others to the Savior who gives the light of life. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
