IF YOU LOVE HIM
“If you love me, you will obey my commands” (John 14:15). Love for Jesus is expressed in a very simple way: by a desire to do what he tells you.
To accept Jesus as Savior is to accept him as Lord. The Lord is the boss. Think of Jesus as your boss. Because he loves you and he knows what is best for you.
When he tells you to do something, it is not for arbitrary reasons. He knows he is God and he knows he is in control. He does not need to prove it by telling us what to do. He proves it by who he is. By simply existing.
Obeying his commands is for our benefit. Everything he tells us to do is for our benefit. But notice the way that Jesus puts it. If you love me, you will obey my commands. If you…you will.
The order is to love him first. Loving him is a decision. It is a decision to appreciate him, and to realize how much he loves you. It is a decision to give him your heart and life. If you do that, you will obey his commands. Not perfectly, of course, because you are still in the flesh. And as long as we are on this earth, we will make mistakes.
Obeying his commands is a way of life. It is about the direction that your life is going. If you get the love right, the commands will be right. When you love Jesus, you will desire to obey him. And you will do whatever you desire to do.
