Love Covers A Multitude of Sins
As believers in Jesus Christ, there are many things that we get wrong. We make mistakes daily. We will never arrive at a point where we do not need the continual forgiveness of God. We walk every day in a constant need of mercy.
We have God’s mercy for as long as we need it, which will be for the rest of our lives. His mercy endures forever and showing mercy is His delight. He is rich in mercy (Eph. 2:4). So never think that you will exhaust the resources of God’s mercy. He has more than enough mercy to cover you for the rest of your life.
The one thing we have to get straight is love. We will make a lot of mistakes and get things wrong, as we have noted, but we must get this fact right. In other words, we must love God, and we must love others. The two greatest commands, Jesus said, are to love the Lord your God with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself (Matt. 22:35-40). Loving Jesus is the key to having a relationship with Him. Knowing Him as Lord and Savior only comes to those who love Him. And we show that we love Him by loving His people.
The Bible tells us that love covers a multitude of sins. That can mean two things. It can mean that if we love people, we will overlook their sins in the sense of forgiving them and accepting them as they are while helping them to get better. It also means that God deals graciously with those who deal graciously with others. Those who show love to others, receive the grace and mercy of God.
Love covers a multitude of sins. I have a multitude of sins that need covering. My God has promised that they will be covered. Therefore, I will go forth in this life to love Him and to love others in His name.
