HIDDEN WITH CHRIST
The believer’s true life is no longer found in the fading things of this world but is safely hidden with Jesus Christ.
When we came to Him by faith, our old life was crucified with Him, and we were given a new life that is secure in His presence.
Though the world may not understand who we are, God sees us as His beloved children, clothed in the righteousness of His Son.
Our identity, our hope, and our future are all hidden with Christ.
“For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3).
God calls us to live from this heavenly reality rather than from earthly appearances. Our circumstances may change, our bodies may grow weak, and the opinions of others may rise and fall, but our life remains safely concealed in Christ.
Because we belong to Him, we can walk through every trial with confidence, knowing that nothing can separate us from His love and that one day His glory will be fully revealed in us.
SECURITY. To be hidden with Christ is to rest in the safety of God’s keeping. Paul declares, “For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3).
The believer’s confidence is not found in personal ability, human resolve, or flawless performance. It is found in the unchanging faithfulness of the Savior who has promised never to forsake His own.
The soul that abides in Christ finds a refuge that no earthly power can overthrow.
Jesus assured His disciples, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27). His sheep continue to hear and follow because they belong to Him.
He also promised, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish” (John 10:28).
This assurance does not encourage carelessness but inspires steadfast trust and grateful obedience. Our security rests in the Shepherd who continually watches over His flock.
God’s keeping, however, never removes our responsibility to remain faithful. We are called to continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast (Colossians 1:23). We “are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation” (1 Peter 1:5).
God’s power preserves those who continue trusting Him. Therefore, we walk with quiet confidence instead of anxious fear, knowing that the One who guards our souls is both faithful and true.
SEPARATION. Those whose lives are hidden with Christ no longer belong to the spirit of this present age.
Since we have been raised with Christ, we are commanded to “seek those things which are above” (Colossians 3:1). Our thoughts, ambitions, and affections are gradually redirected from earthly pursuits to heavenly realities.
The things that once captivated our hearts begin to lose their influence as Christ Himself becomes our greatest treasure.
Our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), even while we continue living upon the earth.
Because we belong to another kingdom, we cannot allow this world’s values to shape our thinking. Paul urges believers, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).
Hidden lives produce transformed minds, and transformed minds produce holy lives.
This separation is not isolation from people but consecration unto God.
Jesus prayed that His disciples would remain in the world without becoming part of its evil system (John 17:15-16).
As we walk with Christ, sinful desires gradually lose their grip, and the beauty of holiness becomes increasingly attractive. The believer learns that true joy is found not in worldly pleasures but in fellowship with the Lord.
SOURCE. Christ is the source of our new life, our strength, and our spiritual fruitfulness.
Just as a branch cannot bear fruit apart from the vine, so we cannot accomplish anything of eternal value apart from Christ. Jesus plainly said, “Without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Every grace we receive flows from our union with Him.
Because our life is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3), we possess resources that cannot be found within ourselves.
In Christ “dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily,” and believers are “complete in Him” (Colossians 2:9-10). We do not live the Christian life by human determination alone but by continually drawing upon His strength through faith, prayer, and obedience.
Every victory over temptation, every act of genuine love, every expression of patience, and every step of spiritual growth comes from His sustaining life within us.
Paul testified, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). As we abide in Him day by day (John 15:4), His life becomes increasingly evident in ours, producing fruit that brings glory to God and blessing to others.
SUPREMACY. Christ is now the center of our lives. He is not merely an addition to our plans but the Lord who directs every step.
Paul writes, “When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:4). Christ is not simply part of the believer’s life. He is the believer’s life.
Because our life is hidden in Him, His purposes become our purposes, His will becomes our delight, and His glory becomes our greatest desire.
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20). The old life of self-rule gives way to the new life of joyful submission to the Lord Jesus.
When Christ reigns supreme, every act of obedience becomes an expression of His life working through us. Every sacrifice offered for His name becomes an act of worship.
Like Paul, we can say, “For to me, to live is Christ” (Philippians 1:21).
The hidden life is ultimately a Christ-centered life, where every thought, every word, and every deed seeks to honor the One who loved us and gave Himself for us.
The treasures that are hidden are often the most valuable. God has placed the believer’s greatest treasure beyond the reach of this passing world by hiding our life with His Son.
Though our glory is not yet fully seen, the day is coming when Christ will appear, and all who belong to Him “will also appear with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:4).
Until that day, let us walk in quiet faith, knowing that our lives are safely hidden in the One who loved us and gave Himself for us.
____________
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us a new life that is hidden with Christ. Help us to set our minds on the things above and to live each day as citizens of Your kingdom. Guard our hearts from the distractions of this world, and let the life of Your Son be clearly seen in us. Keep us faithful until the day when Christ appears in glory and we rejoice forever in His presence. In His name, Amen.
