HEZEKIAH’S PRAYER
When the proud king of Assyria sent his threatening letter, King Hezekiah did not answer with boasting, panic, or political schemes. He carried the letter into the house of the Lord, spread it before God, and poured out his heart in humble confidence.
The battle was too great for human strength, but it was not too great for the Almighty.
Faith knows where to take every burden. The hands that spread the letter before God were stronger than an army because they rested upon the everlasting arms.
Hezekiah confessed that the Lord alone is God over all the kingdoms of the earth and pleaded that His holy name would be honored before the nations (2 Kings 19:14–19).
The Lord still delights in the prayers that seek His glory above personal comfort. “Now therefore, O Lord our God, I pray, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the Lord God, You alone.”
God’s answer was swifter than the enemy’s sword. Before another day had fully dawned, the angel of the Lord struck the Assyrian camp, and the mighty army that terrified Judah lay powerless before the God they had mocked (2 Kings 19:35).
Heaven needs no multitude to accomplish its purpose. One word from the throne outweighs a thousand threats from the world.
Every child of God should remember that no trial is so dark that prayer cannot reach above it. The Lord often allows us to come to the end of ourselves so that we may discover the infinite sufficiency of His grace.
The prayer that rises in weakness often returns clothed with the strength of heaven (Psalms 50:15; Philippians 4:6–7).
Let us therefore learn to spread every fearful letter before the Lord. Whether it comes in the form of sickness, financial trouble, family sorrow, or spiritual warfare, let us carry it into His presence rather than attempting to bear it alone.
The God who heard Hezekiah has not changed. His ear is not heavy that it cannot hear, and His arm is not shortened that it cannot save (Isaiah 59:1).
Blessed is the believer who trusts more in the promises of God than in the appearances of the moment.
Every burden laid before the throne becomes lighter because it is placed into the hands of the King of kings.
____________
Heavenly Father, teach us to bring every fear, every burden, and every impossible circumstance into Your presence with believing hearts. Help us trust Your power more than the threats that surround us, and let our lives display the glory of Your name. Strengthen our faith to rest in Your unfailing promises and give us peace as we wait for Your perfect answer. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
