GREAT QUESTIONS THAT DEMAND AN ANSWER
The Bible is filled with questions that pierce the conscience and reveal the condition of the heart. They are not asked because God lacks information. They are asked because we need conviction.
When Adam sinned, the Lord came into the garden and asked, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9). God knew Adam’s location, but Adam had lost his fellowship with God.
That same question is still asked through every generation. Where are you spiritually? Are you walking in the light, or are you hiding among the trees of guilt, fear, and rebellion?
God’s word continually calls sinners out of hiding and into His marvelous light (1 John 1:7; 1 Peter 2:9).
When Moses trembled before the burning bush, the Lord asked, “What is that in your hand?” (Exodus 4:2). It was only a shepherd’s rod, yet when surrendered to God it became an instrument through which the Lord displayed His mighty power.
God has never required His servants to begin with greatness. He asks only that they yield what they possess. Whether it is a voice, a talent, a compassionate heart, or a willing pair of hands, the Lord can use what is fully placed into His service.
Little becomes much when it is surrendered to Him (Exodus 4:17; 2 Corinthians 9:8; Ephesians 3:20).
Years later another question rang through history from the lips of a Roman governor. Pilate asked, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” (Matthew 27:22).
No question is more urgent. Wealth cannot answer it. Family cannot answer it. Religion cannot answer it. Every soul must answer personally.
To reject Christ is to reject the only Savior God has provided. To receive Him in obedient faith is to receive eternal life according to God’s promise (Acts 4:12; Hebrews 5:8-9).
Then Jesus turned to His own disciples and asked, “But who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15). The opinions of the crowds were many, but the Lord demanded a personal confession.
Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” That confession remains the foundation of genuine faith today.
It is not enough to know what others believe.
Each person must bow before Jesus as Lord and King, allowing every thought, desire, and decision to be governed by Him.
God’s word invites us to confess Christ boldly and follow Him faithfully until the end (Matthew 16:16; Romans 10:9-10; Colossians 2:6).
These questions have never grown old because the human heart has never changed.
“Where are you?” calls us to repentance.
“What shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” calls us to decision.
“Who do you say that I am?” calls us to faith.
“What is that in your hand?” calls us to service.
Blessed is the person who answers each of these questions according to the truth of the Bible, for those answers shape both this life and eternity.
____________
Heavenly Father, search our hearts and help us answer Your questions honestly. Draw us from hiding into Your light. Teach us to place everything we have into Your service. Give us unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and courage to confess Him before the world. May our lives reflect obedience to Your word until we stand in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
