#49 THE SEED OF THE WOMAN 8-28-26
The first promise of redemption was spoken in the darkest moment of human history. Sin had entered the world. Adam and Eve had fallen. The serpent had deceived them. Judgment had been pronounced. Everything had fallen apart.
But in the midst of the darkness, God gave a promise. He told the serpent, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed. He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel” (Genesis 3:15).
There it is.
The first glimpse of the Gospel. A Savior would come through the woman. He would enter our world. He would suffer, but through His suffering He would destroy the enemy.
Centuries later, Paul wrote, “When the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman” (Galatians 4:4). The Seed of the woman had come.
HIS HUMAN LIFE. Jesus did not merely appear to be human. He became flesh and lived among us. He was born as a baby. He grew. He became tired. He hungered. He thirsted. He wept. He experienced the ordinary limitations and sorrows of human life, yet without sin. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). The One who created humanity entered humanity. The hands that formed Adam from the dust became the hands of a carpenter. The voice that spoke creation into existence learned the language of a child. The Son of God became the Son of Man. He became one of us so that He could redeem us.
HIS HEALING LOVE. Everywhere Jesus went, He brought mercy. He opened blind eyes. He made the lame walk. He welcomed the rejected. He forgave sinners. He stopped for people others passed by. His miracles were demonstrations of His power, but they also revealed His heart. He was moved with compassion when He saw suffering (Matthew 9:36). He did not merely see people’s problems. He saw people. His love healed more than bodies. He restored dignity. He gave hope. He brought the sinner back into fellowship with God. The Seed of the woman came into a broken world, and everywhere He went He brought the healing love of God.
HIS HURTING LOSS. But the Seed of the woman came for more than Bethlehem. He came for Calvary. The promise of Genesis said that His heel would be bruised. The cross was the bruising of the heel. Jesus knew rejection, betrayal, loneliness, injustice, and grief. He was despised and rejected by men. He was betrayed by one of His own disciples. He was denied by another. His friends fled. He was mocked, beaten, crucified, and forsaken. He experienced the terrible reality of death. Isaiah said, “He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:3). His hurting loss was not meaningless. He was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities (Isaiah 53:5).
But notice the promise. The serpent would bruise His heel, but He would crush the serpent’s head. Calvary looked like defeat, but it was victory. The grave looked like the end, but it became the doorway to resurrection. Satan wounded Christ, but Christ defeated Satan. Death received Him, but death could not keep Him.
HIS HEAVENLY LIFE. The story does not end with the wounded Christ in the tomb. The Seed of the woman rose again. He ascended into heaven. He is alive forevermore. The One who came down from heaven has returned to the Father, and He lives as our risen Lord. Paul said that Christ “was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification” (Romans 4:25). The baby of Bethlehem is the King of glory. The carpenter of Nazareth is the Lord of heaven. The suffering Savior is the reigning Christ.
From Genesis 3:15 to Galatians 4:4, God kept His promise. The Seed of the woman came. He lived our human life. He revealed God’s healing love. He endured hurting loss. And now He lives a heavenly life. What began as a promise in Eden became a Person in Bethlehem, a sacrifice at Calvary, a victory at the empty tomb, and a reign in heaven.
And one day, the Christ who came will come again. The Seed of the woman who crushed the serpent’s head will finally and completely put every enemy beneath His feet. Until then, we look to Him, trust Him, love Him, and proclaim Him. Eden pointed to Him. Bethlehem revealed Him. Calvary purchased us. The empty tomb vindicated Him. Heaven receives Him. And eternity belongs to Him.

Lord Jesus, thank You for becoming the Seed of the woman, entering our human condition and coming to redeem us. Thank You for Your healing love and for willingly enduring the pain and loss of Calvary. Thank You that death could not hold You and that You now live in heavenly glory. Help us to love You more deeply, trust You more completely, and live every day looking toward the day when we will see You. Amen.
