#349 THE WORTH OF WISDOM 10-29-26

A person can possess great wealth and still make foolish decisions. Education may open doors, experience may teach valuable lessons, and intelligence may solve difficult problems, but wisdom teaches us how to live in a way that honors God. There is a difference between knowing many things and knowing what matters most.

Proverbs 3:13 declares, “Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding.” Wisdom brings a blessing that cannot be measured by the size of a bank account. It helps us choose our words carefully, recognize dangerous paths, and consider the consequences of our decisions before we make them.

Imagine standing at a crossroads with several roads stretching before you. One promises immediate pleasure, another offers quick success, and a third requires patience and sacrifice. Without wisdom, the most attractive road may appear to be the best. God provides the direction we need when appearances cannot be trusted.

James 1:5 tells us to ask God for wisdom when we lack it. Notice that wisdom is not reserved for the naturally gifted or those who have lived the longest. We can seek God’s guidance through prayer, learn from the experiences of others, and allow the Bible to correct our thinking.

The worth of wisdom becomes especially clear when life presents difficult choices. Wisdom can prevent a careless word from damaging a friendship, a selfish decision from hurting a family, or a moment of temptation from creating years of regret.

And yet the greatest wisdom is not merely learning how to succeed in this world. It is learning how to live faithfully before God. We need wisdom to recognize our need for Christ, appreciate His grace, and follow His teaching.

Let us pursue wisdom more eagerly than applause, possessions, or popularity. The world may measure success by what we accumulate, but God teaches us to value the understanding that leads to righteous living.
