#344 THE GRACE OF GOD IN REAL TIME 10-28-26

“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” (Titus‬ ‭2‬:‭11‬-‭14‬)

Grace has a way of showing up right when life gets complicated.

Not just when the preacher extends an invitation. Not only when the sinner comes home. Not even exclusively at the moment of baptism. Grace enters the ordinary hours of an ordinary day, when the alarm rings and yesterday’s troubles are still waiting for us.

Paul tells Titus that the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men. Then he tells us what that grace does. It teaches us.

Think about that. Grace is not merely God's answer to our past. It is His provision for our present.

We sometimes treat grace like a receipt tucked away in a drawer. The debt has been paid. The transaction is finished. We are grateful, and we move along. But Paul describes something much more alive. God's grace steps into the classroom of our daily experience and begins teaching us how to live.

Grace teaches us to say no.

That may not be the first thing we associate with grace. We think of forgiveness, and rightly so. Yet Titus says grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts. The grace that opens the door of salvation also shows us which doors to leave closed.

A temptation may arrive before breakfast. An angry word may rise to our lips before lunch. Old habits know our address. Grace does not pretend these battles are imaginary. It teaches us that we no longer have to surrender whenever they appear.

Grace teaches us to live differently today.

Paul speaks of living soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age. Notice where this life takes place. Not in a perfect world. Not after every problem has disappeared. Right here, amid the interruptions, disappointments, responsibilities, and unexpected turns of the day.

You do not have to wait until tomorrow to begin obeying Christ. You can speak with kindness in the conversation happening now. You can make an honest decision while nobody is watching. The person who hurt you may still be difficult to forgive, but today you can take another step toward releasing the bitterness.

Grace belongs in real time.

Grace keeps our eyes on the future.

We are looking for the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, but Christ has promised a future beyond the reach of death. That hope changes how we spend the hours we have been given.

And why has He redeemed us? Titus 2:14 says Christ gave Himself to purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. We are not saved by our accomplishments. We are saved by His mercy and called into a life that reflects His goodness.

So when Monday arrives, take grace with you. When the unexpected phone call comes, remember it. When you fail and need to rise again, do not confuse your weakness with God's absence.

The grace that saved you is still teaching you.
