#300 THE WOUNDS THAT RULE THE WORLD 10-17-26

The remarkable love found in the wounds of Jesus.

Earth has crowned its conquerors with gold, carved their names into stone, and erected monuments to their victories. But heaven centers its worship around a Lamb who was slain. In Revelation 5, John sees the Lion of the tribe of Judah, yet when he looks, he beholds a Lamb standing as though it had been slain. The greatest power in the universe is revealed through the greatest sacrifice in history. Jesus reigns, but His wounds tell us what kind of King He is.

THE SCAR OF HIS SACRIFICE

John sees a Lamb who bears the marks of slaughter. The wounds of Calvary were not accidental interruptions in the life of Jesus. They were central to His mission. “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities” (Isaiah 53:5). The hands that healed the sick were pierced. The feet that carried good news were nailed to a cross. The brow that deserved a crown received thorns.

And yet those wounds accomplished what human strength could never achieve. We could not purchase our own pardon, erase our own guilt, or reconcile ourselves to God. Jesus offered Himself for us. His scars remind us that forgiveness is freely offered, but it was not cheaply obtained. The cross reveals both the terrible seriousness of sin and the immeasurable depth of divine love.

THE SCEPTER OF HIS SOVEREIGNTY

The Lamb who was slain is also the Lion who has prevailed. Revelation 5:5 declares, “Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed.” Jesus is not a defeated martyr whose influence merely survives in human memory. He is the risen Lord who possesses all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18).

The world often measures power by the ability to dominate, intimidate, and destroy. Jesus reveals a greater sovereignty. He conquered through obedience, triumphed through suffering, and overcame death through resurrection. His kingdom cannot be reduced to earthly borders, political fortunes, or human applause. The crucified Christ is enthroned, and no earthly throne can rival His. We may not understand every turn of history, but we can trust the King who holds it in His hands.

THE SONG OF HIS SALVATION

When the Lamb takes the scroll, heaven breaks into worship. The elders sing, “For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood” (Revelation 5:9). Redemption produces a song because grace has given the redeemed a reason to rejoice.

The Christian's song is not rooted in a trouble-free life. It rises from the knowledge that Christ has dealt with our deepest problem: our separation from God. His blood speaks of forgiveness, His resurrection declares victory, and His promise gives hope beyond the grave. The guilty can receive mercy, the broken can find restoration, and the dying can look toward everlasting life.

The wounds of Jesus still speak. They tell us that love can sacrifice, that the King has conquered, and that salvation is worthy of eternal praise. The world may celebrate many rulers, but only Jesus bears the wounds of redemption. The hands once pierced for our salvation are the hands of the King who reigns forever.

Lord Jesus, help us never to forget the wounds You bore for our salvation, the authority You possess as our King, and the redemption You purchased with Your blood. Teach us to trust Your sovereignty when life is uncertain, to rest in Your grace when we are weak, and to lift our voices in gratitude for Your unfailing love. Amen.
