#290 THERE IS A REDEEMER 10-15-26
The greatest tragedy of the human condition is not that we are mortal, but that sin has separated us from the God who made us. We were created for fellowship with Him, yet our sins have left us guilty and unable to purchase our own freedom. But the story of humanity does not end with our failure. There is a Redeemer!
Job declared with remarkable confidence, “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth” (Job 19:25). Though Job endured suffering he could scarcely understand, he held fast to the certainty that his Redeemer lived. His hope rested not in his possessions, his health, or the approval of others, but in the living God.
Jesus Christ is that Redeemer. He did not come merely to offer moral instruction or provide an example of goodness. He came to deliver sinners from the guilt and power of sin. Paul wrote that in Christ “we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:14). Our freedom came at an immeasurable cost. The Son of God willingly gave Himself on the cross so that guilty people could be forgiven and reconciled to their Creator.
We were not redeemed with corruptible things such as silver or gold, “but with the precious blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18-19). No earthly treasure could accomplish what His sacrifice accomplished. No human achievement could erase our guilt. No religious ceremony could replace the saving work of our Lord.
And the Redeemer who died is the Redeemer who lives! The resurrection declares that death did not defeat Him. Our hope is anchored in a living Savior who will never abandon His people.
The world offers many substitutes for redemption: success, pleasure, reputation, and wealth. None can cleanse the conscience or conquer the grave. Only Jesus can bring us back to God.
There is a Redeemer, and His name is Jesus Christ. Our greatest need is met in Him, our deepest guilt can be forgiven through Him, and our eternal hope rests upon Him.
