#288 THE GRACE OF GOD IN EVERYDAY LIFE 10-15-26
Christianity is not merely something we profess in a church building. It is a life we practice in our homes, our conversations, our relationships, and our daily responsibilities.
Paul begins Colossaian 4 by telling believers to “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving” (Colossians 4:2). Prayer is not a last resort for desperate people. It is the continual privilege of those who know God. We pray because we need His wisdom, depend upon His strength, and trust His providence. Even when life is difficult, thanksgiving reminds us that God's goodness has not disappeared.
Paul also asks the church to pray that God would open a door for the word. What a beautiful request! The apostle was not simply concerned about his own circumstances. He wanted opportunities to make Christ known. We should ask God to open doors for the gospel in our conversations, our communities, and our everyday encounters. Sometimes the greatest opportunity for ministry comes through an ordinary conversation with an unexpected person.
Paul then writes, “Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time” (Colossians 4:5). Our conduct matters. People may never read a Bible, but they will observe the lives of those who claim to follow Jesus. We must be thoughtful in our decisions, gracious in our speech, and careful with the opportunities God gives us. Time is a gift that cannot be reclaimed once it has passed.
Finally, Paul says, “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt” (Colossians 4:6). Grace-filled words can encourage the discouraged, correct the mistaken, and open hearts to truth. We must never sacrifice truth for kindness, nor kindness for truth. Christ calls us to speak both faithfully and lovingly.
Colossians 4 teaches us to pray faithfully, walk wisely, and speak graciously. May our daily lives point others toward the Savior we profess to love.
_______________
Heavenly Father, teach us to pray with faith, thanksgiving, and perseverance. Open doors for the gospel and give us courage to speak of Jesus whenever opportunities arise. Let our conversations carry truth, kindness, and hope. May our lives reflect the character of Christ so clearly that others will be drawn to Him. In Jesus' name, Amen.
