#215 THE SON OF MAN IS COMING 9-30-26
Daniel 7 opens with a world of beasts. Daniel sees kingdoms rising from the sea, powerful and frightening, each representing earthly authority that appears unstoppable. Human kingdoms rise, conquer, boast, and eventually disappear. But then the vision changes. Daniel looks beyond the beasts and sees something altogether different: “One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven!” (Daniel 7:13).
This is Jesus.
The contrast could hardly be greater. The kingdoms of this world are pictured as beasts, but Christ comes as the Son of Man. Earthly rulers grasp for power, but Jesus receives authority from God. Human kingdoms have boundaries and expiration dates, but concerning the Son of Man, Daniel says, “His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed” (Daniel 7:14).
Jesus deliberately used this title for Himself throughout the Gospels. When He stood before the Jewish council, He declared, “You will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven” (Matthew 26:64). The language reaches back to Daniel 7. The rejected Christ would be vindicated by God and exalted to the place of authority.
Acts 1:9-11 shows us that Jesus ascended into heaven, and Hebrews 1:3 says that after He had accomplished purification for sins, “He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” The cross did not defeat Jesus. The resurrection did not merely bring Him back to life. His ascension brought Him to the throne.
Daniel saw the Son of Man receiving “dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him” (Daniel 7:14). Revelation 5 gives us the same glorious picture of Jesus as the Lamb who was slain, receiving worship and authority. Philippians 2:9-11 declares that God has highly exalted Him and given Him “the name which is above every name.”
That means our hope does not rest upon the stability of earthly kingdoms. Governments change. Nations rise and fall. Men make promises and break them. Thrones are occupied and eventually emptied. But the throne of Christ remains.
Daniel 7 does not merely tell us that Jesus will rule. It tells us that Jesus reigns.
He is the Son of Man. He is the King. His kingdom cannot be destroyed. His authority cannot be overturned. His people may suffer for a season, but the final word belongs to Christ.
So lift your eyes above the beasts of this world and look toward the throne. Jesus is there.
And when everything around us seems uncertain, we can stand firmly upon this certainty: the Son of Man has received an everlasting kingdom, and His kingdom shall not pass away.
