#201 GOD’S WAY FOR A NEW DAY 9-28-26
Every new day is a gift from God. Yesterday has closed its eyes, and today stands before us with possibilities we cannot yet see. We cannot change what happened yesterday, but we can decide how we will walk today. “This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). A new day is more than another square on the calendar. It is another opportunity to experience the grace of God, pursue the glory of God, and do the good God has placed before us.
REDEMPTION BY HIS GRACE
The first blessing of a new day is that God does not require us to remain imprisoned by yesterday. His grace gives us redemption.
Lamentations 3:22–23 says, “Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Notice those words: new every morning. God knows what happened yesterday. He knows our failures, our weaknesses, our foolish decisions, and our missed opportunities. Yet His mercy meets us when we wake up.
Peter denied Jesus three times, but Jesus did not write Peter off. After the resurrection, Jesus came looking for him (John 21:15–17). The prodigal son wasted his inheritance, but when he came home, his father ran to meet him (Luke 15:20). Saul persecuted the church, but God gave him a new direction and made him Paul, a servant of Christ (Acts 9:1-6; 13:9).
Grace does not pretend yesterday never happened. Grace declares that yesterday does not have to determine today.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17). God’s way for a new day begins with redemption by His grace.
RENEWAL FOR HIS GLORY
God does not merely forgive us so we can repeat yesterday. He renews us so we can live differently today. “Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16). The work of God in us is persistent. He keeps working on us. He keeps shaping us. He keeps calling us higher.
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). Every morning gives us another opportunity to put our minds where God wants them. Colossians 3:1-2 says, “Seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
A new day should produce a renewed mind.
Maybe yesterday brought disappointment. Today can bring faith. Maybe yesterday brought temptation. Today can bring obedience. Maybe yesterday brought discouragement. Today can bring hope. “Those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31).
God’s way for a new day is not simply surviving another twenty-four hours. It is allowing Him to renew us for His glory.
REWARDS FOR OUR GOOD
Finally, a new day gives us another opportunity to do good.
Paul encouraged the Galatians, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9). God sees what people overlook. He sees the kindness no one thanked us for, the prayer nobody heard, the sacrifice nobody noticed, and the good deed that seemed insignificant.
Jesus said, “Your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly” (Matthew 6:4).
That ought to change the way we approach today.
We do not have to make today spectacular. We simply need to make it faithful. We can encourage somebody. Forgive somebody. Feed somebody. Visit somebody. Teach somebody. Pray for somebody. Tell somebody about Jesus. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all” (Galatians 6:10).
One day our earthly days will end. But Revelation 14:13 reminds us, “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord…that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.”
So let us receive this day as God’s gift. Let grace redeem what is behind us. Let renewal transform what is within us. Let good works fill what is before us.
Yesterday belongs to God’s mercy. Today belongs to God’s purpose. Tomorrow belongs to God’s providence.
This is God’s way for a new day.

Father, thank You for the gift of a new day. Thank You for grace that redeems our past, mercy that meets us this morning, and strength that renews us for Your glory. Help us to seek You today, walk faithfully before You, and use every opportunity to do good. Let our lives bring honor to Jesus and let the work of our hands point others toward You.
