#146 THE COST HE PAID 9-16-26

There is no greater love than the love Jesus showed at Calvary. The Son of God, who created the heavens and the earth, came into this world to give His life for sinners. He did not come merely to teach us how to live. He came to die, that we might live through Him (John 3:16; 1 John 4:9-10).

THE PRICE OF HIS BLOOD

Redemption has a price, and the price was the precious blood of Christ. Peter reminds us that we were not redeemed with corruptible things like silver or gold, “but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot” (1 Peter 1:18–19). The value of our salvation is measured by the One who purchased it.

THE PAIN OF HIS SACRIFICE

Think of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed in agony, “Not My will, but Yours, be done” (Luke 22:42). Think of the scourging, the mockery, the nails, and the cross. Isaiah had prophesied, “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities” (Isaiah 53:5). The suffering was real, but so was His love. “Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end” (John 13:1).

THE POWER OF HIS PAYMENT

When Jesus cried, “It is finished!” (John 19:30), He declared that the work given Him by the Father had been accomplished. His sacrifice was offered once for all (Hebrews 10:10-14). He died for our sins, was buried, and rose again according to the Bible (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

We could never purchase forgiveness by our own goodness. But Christ paid the price we could not pay. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins” (Ephesians 1:7).
